Victims in Palestine - Videos of Context

The video opens with the text overlaid "my neighbourhood in Gaza before 10.10.2023". It shows a market with vegetables and a person walking away from the camera. It switches to shots of taller buildings, then a man sitting in the shade smoking, and finally a bustling rooftop garden. Each shot establishes the area having diverse colors on and around the buildings with red roofs, well-kept vegetation, and decorated tiling.

The text overlay changes to "my neighbourhood now", and the shots establish destroyed buildings, with people sitting and searching among rubble with childrens toys, taller buildings destroyed with dust kicking off of them, rendered unusable. Each shot is rife with a lack of vibrant color from the buildings and vegetation.

Over 2,300 Palestinians have been murdered in Gaza over the past week (video date [2023-10-17]). This is ethnic cleansing. This is genocide. This is mass destruction happening live right before our eyes. We're incredibly privileged to have access to electricity, to the internet, to social media, to have our voices, and it's imperative that we use them. I'm gonna show you how quickly you can take a couple minutes out of your day to call your senators and representatives, and tell them to take action against the genocide that is happening in Gaza right now. I know it can be a little intimidating to pick up the phone and make that call, but Jewish Voices for Peace has put together resources and a call script to make it incredibly easy. I'm going to call them right now, and I'm going to record it so you can see just how simple it is.

It is absolutely urgent that Representative Nadler call for a ceasefire, [and] they call on Israel to allow humanitarian assistance into Gaza. They must oppose sending any more weapons to the Israeli military as it carries out mass atrocities against Palestinians in Gaza. The only way forward is addressing the root causes of violence: Israeli military occupation and apartheid, and ending the US's complicity in this oppression. Thank you.

The video starts with a person in a knitted hood looking away from the camera. Text is shown describing, "my label just dropped me, a Palestinian artist, for being pro-palestine". She pulls a broken mirror up and reflects her face and starts singing a song she wrote, "what if i took it off for you?".

As she is singing, the text changes out. Lyrics of the music are interspersed with the text overlay in parentheticals.

In my existence as a Korean and understanding of past, present, and what's to come, it is impossible not to align with the fight for a free and liberated Palestine. Now what Palestine endured and Koreans gone through are of course different. But there are lessons that Koreans have learned that make us understand the need for the fight for liberation from oppression. And we have so many parallels originating from colonialism's consequences. A corrupt southern Korean administration that has fallen in sync with western colonial powers against the well being and peace of its own people. False narratives are spread to feed capitalism, imperialism, and colonialism. There are sanctions against northern Korea that prevent food, aid, medical supplies, and life-sustaining access. Meanwhile, Koreans lived through decades of Japanese colonial occupation, displacement, and ethnic cleansing. Then our land was carved up mainly by the US Empire, a colonial country that made decisions about our land and our people for its own benefit. Still divided by the way. We were forced to lose our homelands forever, meaning for a lot of us we would never be able to reunite with family and home again. We continue to be occupied today, and are surrounded by one of the largest forces of western militarism that deeply profits from keeping the Peninsula divided. So as a Korean who wants a free Korea and wants a Korea free from colonial manipulation, from live-evaporating sanctions, from militarism. See how our struggles as Koreans are aligned with the struggles of the Palestinians? So of course, of course I fight also for a free and liberated Palestine. When we say liberation, it means liberation from imperialism and colonialism around the world. May all of us fight for liberation until everyone is free.

The taker of the video starts singing, off-key, "I believe I can fly, I can fly" and trails off as law enforcement shuts off the camera recording.

The video starts off with the title text in the upper center of the screen, "beat the censorship". The speaker, hippiearab, is speaking.

As hippiearab says her words, the spoken words are contradicted by text on the screen popping up below the title text. The rest of the description is a quote with parentheticals indicating the text contradicting the spoken words.

Spoken at a normal level, she states "Guys, one tactic that's helping my friend is she's saying the exact opposite of what we all are trying to say. Guys, I love Israel (I DONT LMAO). Um, Israel is amazing (amazing at k*lling). Israel is totallly legitimate (add 'i' before legitimate). Israel is awesome (awesome at lying). Israel is totally not..." she whispers, "...killing innocent children (but it totally is)." She stops whispering, "Israel does *not* have blood on its hands (bl00diest hands to date 🩸). And the government is totally not..." whispering again, "...a terrorist group (IT IS LMAOOO)..." spoken, "because they legitimate (legitimate m*rderers). I hope that works".
